Overall purpose

Accountable for the formulation of the business growth strategy and assist in delivery of the resultant action plans. Identify and secure new business opportunities and delivery of the new homes development programme.

Accountable for the delivery of our investment in housing to ensure this remains a viable asset and properties meet customer demand.

Oversee the development of our in house property maintenance and construction division, in accordance with its medium term strategy and business plan.

Be an active and effective member of the Executive team working collaboratively with the Chief Executive, Board members and Executive Director colleagues on all matters of corporate strategy to ensure a growing and sustainable Group.

Provide leadership in developing a culture that enables and emphasises agility, customer orientation and the Group’s values.

Key Responsibilities (functional)

Development

  • Accountable for the investment strategies to shape strategy and delivery of quality homes demanded by existing and future customers;
  • Responsible for external stakeholder management and development of positive relationships with key and prospective partners;
  • Accountable for all aspects of growth through partnership and new initiatives to achieve business objectives, actively seeking opportunities and translating these into financially viable initiatives supported by robust business plans within a risk management framework;
  • Explore and maximise the potential for new business opportunities and funding streams, over and above traditional grants and funding sources, including institutional investment and the resourceful use of assets to help meet our broader objectives;
  • Accountable for understanding market conditions for delivery of a diverse tenure to ensure that the Group achieves best value from its investments in new homes;
  • Accountable for the development and delivery of a market led and diverse property portfolio including overseeing the right to buy and shared ownership programme;
  • Oversee the implementation of innovative practices and examples of good practice, ensuring that lessons are widely learnt and disseminated throughout the organisation.

Asset Management and Management of Repairs

  • Accountable for the effective development and delivery of the Asset Management strategy.
  • Oversee all asset-related matters, ensuring all statutory obligations are met, customer satisfaction is high and value for money delivered, including:
    • Investment programme
    • Responsive, cyclical and planned maintenance
  • Oversee and develop contractual relationships with partners to ensure that all programmes are effectively managed.
  • Ensure that the Group can identify in advance the investment requirements of the housing stock so that we can plan and prioritise programmes of work.
  • Accountable for the development of a sustainability strategy, reviewing property and land holdings to ensure efficient use of assets.
  • Oversee the delivery of development and regeneration schemes.
  • Oversee the development of Bernicia’s property maintenance and construction division, in accordance with its agreed strategy and business plan.

Key Responsibilities (Corporate)

  • To provide motivational leadership and support to line managers and their teams, ensuring clarity of direction, effective communication and development of personal potential.
  • As a member of the executive management team, to adopt a collaborative and supportive approach, maintaining up to date professional knowledge and providing advice and assistance to colleagues as required.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Executive and other Directors, to keep the business plan and other key strategies and plans under review.
  • To determine and monitor standards of performance through the range of the directorate’s operations, ensuring development of an effective service, responsive to changing circumstances and demands.
  • Ensure that financial and all other resources of the directorate are managed within agreed plans; to identify and implement opportunities to make best use of all resources.
  • In all aspects of the company’s work, to promote effective communications, excellence in customer service and a focus on continuous improvement.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Act as a role model to provide a consistent leadership style that reinforces agility, continuous improvement and a focus on building organisational capabilities to seek opportunities and challenges, to develop solutions and share and embed learning.
  • Promote and represent the Group positively by providing a proactive customer service based on an understanding of the customers’ needs, their relationship with the organisation and promoting our services.
  • Comply with all of the Group’s policies, procedures and controls relevant to the role in order to mitigate risk to the Group. This includes complying with all relevant legislation and codes of practice.
  • Be responsible for your own personal and professional development and attend required development events appropriate to the role.
  • Manage a range of portfolios and projects that will vary dependent on business priorities.
